Taekwondo Self Defense Classes for Children
BENEFITS OF TAEKWONDO FOR KIDS
I would like to share some words with Parents and Students About the Benefits of Taekwondo for Children at the American Dragon Martial Arts Academies schools in Clermont, Orlando, Sunrise and Winter Garden, Florida. Martial Arts like Taekwondo can provide many benefits for children. In addition to self defense class, the training helps them developmentally, academically, and spiritually.
As a certified martial arts self defense instructor and grand master of Taekwondo and Hapkido with more than 35 years of experience, I have found that Taekwondo training often provides many benefits to youngsters beyond that offered by other sports or youth activities.
Taekwondo Self Defense Benefits for Shy Children
The introverted youngster often begins to blossom when he or she learns Taekwondo self defense. The structured Taekwondo drills that involve punching, kicking, and yelling help the youngster overcome shyness and timidity. The anxious or worried child becomes more confident and assertive as he learns to move and control his body while doing Taekwondo self
defense movements. He or she learns to work and compete with others in a friendly and safe environment at Taekwondo class. Self-confidence and self-esteem grow naturally as part of Taekwondo training. Many parents report a marked increase in the child’s social interactions because of learning Taekwondo. Because of learning Taekwondo the youngster feels less
threatened by other children or new situations. As a result, there is often more of a willingness to become more involved with others outside of Taekwondo class.
Benefits of Taekwondo Training for Extroverted Children
In Taekwondo class the extroverted youngster has a safe, healthy outlet in which to compete with himself and others. Youngsters are taught how to avoid trouble and challenges because Taekwondo is to only be used for self defense. They learn to have enough self-confidence that they need not respond to teasing or provocation from peers. Taekwondo is a safe, positive environment that allows children to burn up some of that extra energy.
Taekwondo Classes Calms Aggressive Children
At Taekwondo training the aggressive child is taught the self-discipline that aids in keeping anger under control. He or she learns the philosophy of Taekwondo that fighting is merely a way of showing off and that showing off is a sign of low self-esteem and a lack of self-confidence. True Taekwondo training develops self esteem and to only be used for self defense.
Taekwondo Schools Helps Children Develop A Strong Mind, Body, and Spirit
Taekwondo training is a gross motor activity that helps youngsters develop a sense of integrity about their bodies. Balance, coordination, posture, and general movements improve with Taekwondo training. The pre-adolescent, in particular, finds that Taekwondo class helps him or her cope with the clumsiness that often accompanies the spurt of growth at this age.
Additional Benefits of Taekwondo Training for Children
Taekwondo also offers an additional bonus that other sports do not provide. Taekwondo teaches self-defense. In the unsettling times in which we live, knowledge of how to protect oneself can be crucial. Loving parents understand that sending their child to a Taekwondo school for self defense class is a parental obligation not just another youth activity or sport. Parents often report feeling more secure knowing their sons or daughters are capable of defending themselves thanks to learning Taekwondo.
Parents should encourage and support your youngster’s involvement in Taekwondo training. You will be pleasantly surprised with the results. And, who knows, you may want to try a Taekwondo class yourself!
Sincerely,
Richard Hackworth, Phd.
